Northern Ireland 1-0 England

That was a terrible performance by england. Fortunately I don't care as it's Man United alone for me. That was a pretty spectacular victory for NI. But I still love watching Rooney in any game and Sven's formation utterly stifled him. Why on earth put the best forward in the world right out on the left wing and leave a lightweight Owen up on his own?

James,

we don't get to watch stateside. I hear a lot these days about Sven's tactics, but what about the players' performances? The current crop of players (except for Roon) are experienced and very well-disciplined and will do what they're told, which means no creativity?...I guess Sven is the aged scholar and the team are the NT postgrads, to make an absolutely atrocious analogy (from your post last week)?

I may let you have that analogy, Jason!

Not that I'm overly bothered but the blame has to lie with poor old Sven (I say poor old Sven: he is rumoured to be on millions a year which should help him draw some comfort). Tactically everyone in the world noticed that he was completely wrong. NI have players from Div 2!!!!
