SBL and the Eyewitnesses

The deadline for the Bauckham panel for SBL (see below) was yesterday. Obviously I have done it or I wouldn't bother bringing up the subject. I will say more on it in due course, though it may well address these concerns I suspect, and I may make the paper available. As a little taster, I've gone for the title, 'What if...Richard Bauckham is Right about Eyewitnesses?'. Bet that's got you drooling.

I am curious, because the concerns that Judy raises in her post are very real. I myself have been working on a paper about human memory and the transmission of the Jesus traditions where I address even more concerns than Judy has outlined. The paper will be published in the forthcoming volume to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Kelber's Oral and Written Gospel.

I, of course, am also very interested in what you have to say. Unfortunately, I can't be at SBL - finances won't allow a second trip to the other side of the world in one year! I'd love a copy of your paper at some stage, please.

April, when is this Kelber volume published? I should point out that my little paper is only a response so it won't compete in terms of depth.

No problem Judy. I've tried to push some of your questions even harder because they are, as April says, very real.

What if Hugh Schonfield is right?

What if Morton Smith is?

Acharya S?

(I hate being sarcastic—laughs—but . . . )
